To modern ears, this two-part comedy record will sound quite disturbing, and quite rightly so. It is a real time capsule of the dark side of the 1930's. Hangings, electric chairs, wife beating and the imprisonment of homosexuals.
I have this record in my collection purely for historical reasons. I have nothing against the artists, as they were just making a record about the many topics that were considered normal at the time.
Both sides were recorded 17th December, 1931, and the vocalists are George Baker, Pat O'Malley, Leslie Sarony & chorus.
Also, the recording quality at the Chenil Galleries had gotten so poor by this point, it's difficult to understand what is said at times. I always thought George Baker said ''If there's a lady present, I'd like to give her me teeth.'' !
