Sir John Phillip William Dankworth, CBE 1927 –2010 known in his early career as Johnny Dankworth, was an English jazz composer, saxophonist and clarinetist, and writer of many film scores and television theme music. With his wife, jazz singer Dame Cleo Laine, he was a music educator and also served as her music director.

On this video the theme music from the seventies BBC TV series 'Look Stranger' and here evoking memories of television and Cinema mainly from the 1960s, Hippies, Mini Cars and Mini Skirts from the psychedelic age when we still had plenty of hope and enthusiasm. Remember the 'That's Life' feature seen at the pictures before the main film came on, with the movie trailers, the ice cream and cigarette 'Lambert and Butler' commercials? These films were always beautifully shot with high quality colour film and produced with a slick voice-over always seeming so optimistic in a brave new world. This was much in mode of the later BBC television's 'Tomorrows World' with the wonderful Raymond Baxter for which John Dankworth also wrote the instantly recognizable theme music. What a great show that was back in the days when the BBC did a great entertainment and public service job for the British People.
