Back in March 1998, amidst a plethora of top tunes, this particular earworm was inescapable. Teamed with a video that documented that happy yet hazy, afterparty chaos clubbers from that era knew so well, The All Seeing I’s ‘Beat Goes On’ soundtracked dance floors, radio waves… and numerous attempts to stand upright in the early hours…..
‘Beat Goes On’ was the brainchild of Sheffield collective Dean Honer, Jason Buckle and DJ Parrot, and a track they’d conceived from a remix of a Sonny Bono song but using vocals sung by Buddy Rich’s daughter. The trio were well known in their hometown having worked with the likes of Tony Christie, Jarvis Cocker and Phil Oakey but prior to ‘Beat Goes On’ preferred to remain in the background. When ‘Beat Goes On’ proved a huge commercial hit – reaching No 11 in the UK charts - it thrust the trio blinkingly into the spotlight.
