Track 3 contains the opening of Act 2 of “Tannhäuser” (Wagner), at the Chicago Civic Opera, 1 November 1930. Lotte Lehmann sings “Dich teure Halle,” with Paul Althouse, Hans Hermann Nissen, and Egon Pollack conductor. A fragment, in poor sound, this is the earliest extant recording of a broadcast from an America opera house. “The Golden Age of Wagner” EJS 444.
