After Sunset (1926)

Playing Next: Make Him Come To You (Motown Anthology Version)
Random Page  /  Random Song

1926 recording of “After Sunset” performed by Besses o' th' Barn Band and conducted by Harry Barlow
Released on Regal G8562 with the reverse side being \"Distant Greeting\"
The slides used are what I personally see as the Besses journey in the 1920's
Alexander Owen dies suddenly in 1920 and Besses are led on stage at the British Open by Willie Wood and go on to win the Bands 3rd British Open.
Willie Wood and the Besses players can be seen in the first few images

Harry Barlow takes over in 1922 and pushes Besses towards a heavy Concert Schedule throughout the UK, along with recordings such as this one featured and regular Concert Broadcasts on BBC Radio (Besses visiting every BBC Broadcasting location in the UK in the mid 1920’s)
Harry Barlow was no stranger to Besses as he had been a close Musical Confidante with Alexander Owen starting in 1890 when Harry was a student of Alex (Harry turned down the offer of Solo Euphonium at Besses in 1892 in favour of a Tuba Position at the Halle Orchestra)
I have included images of Harry with Besses during his years with the Band and also added a few of the Besses Corner Men he had in the Band,
Bill Rushworth – Solo Cornet
Fred Cowburn – Solo Horn
Bill Whiteside – Solo Trombone
Herbert (Tib) Scott – Solo Euphonium (Tib was a great friend of Harry and took the 1892 Solo Euphonium position that Harry had turned down)

The Concert Program for the 1924 performance for King George V and his Queen Alexandria when they visited Runcorn is included in the slides
The Portrait of Besses with Harry at The Houses of Parliament after a Concert Performance is also included in the slides (sorry about the terrible image quality)

Harry left Besses in 1927, which is why the final Band image is of Besses with the new MD, Fred Royle.
