[Electro Funk/Funk/R&B/Soul/Minneapolis Sound] Here is electro (R&B/Soul) artist Clayton Savage 's 1986 self titled LP album: \"Clayton Savage\". Excellent album, a shame it fell under the radar and i think i know why...it sounds too much like Prince!! But does that make the album a dud? hell no!! In fact, the song \"Virgin Lover\" (Track 2) shot to #1 for a brief moment while the track titled \"Palm Of Her Hand\" (Track 3) was the opening song for BET’s historic Video Soul television show, which showcased a new generation of music artists. For starters, Clayton moved in as a studio sessionist and producer and was introduced to the lineup, which included Grandmaster Mele Mel of the GM Flash Camp. Aside from writing and recording with many of the legends, including Kool Moe Dee, Sugar Hill Gang and Sequence, it was a cut from Clayton’s solo album titled “We Don't Work For Free” that caught Sylvia Robinson’s ear and she suggested that Mele Mel add a rap to the song. The song was moved from Clayton’s solo album and he became a member of the Furious Five. \"We Don't Work For Free\" became one of the first top 20 R&B/Rap songs. Clayton was also the first male featured on the cover of Black Hair Magazine and can also be seen on the cover of Aretha Franklin’s \"Freeway Of Love\" album. Sadly this album was a failed marketing attempt by Manhattan Records (partly due to the Payola scandal investigations of the late 80’s) which discouraged Savage and he left NY for Minnesota. Today, Savage is still doing music with his own Red K Records label and has released some new stuff through the years but it doesn't hold a candle to this Prince & The Revolution knock off. This album was released under Manhattan Records '86.
