Vying for the heaviest band award in the \"Seattle Four\" with Soundgarden, Alice in Chains made a blend of metal and Grunge that only one other band could match. Their debut, Facelift, was released in 1990 and helped muddy the line between grunge and metal which also gained the band a wider audience in the early 90's when the metal scene was starting to die out and Grunge was taking off.
