In continuing with the various labels issued by Aeolian-Vocalion.........
You will probably be familiar with the Columbia version of Last Night On The Back Porch by this band, which was recorded on 23rd November 1923, but this version, under a pseudonym, was recorded two days before that for Vocalion, and issued on several of it's subsidiary labels. On another subsidiary, Scala, it was issued as Wag Abbey (!)
This Vocalion version, was directed by Ramon Newton, who is also part of the vocal chorus. The Columbia version, was directed by Debroy Somers, adding strength to the possibility that Somers was directing the Vocalion Dance Orchestra on the Aeolian-Vocalion disc I uploaded previously, as from late 1922, The Savoy Havana Band had appeared periodically on Vocalion several times before this final session for them, and as Somers was presumably with Vocalion around that time, Maybe he pulled a few strings for these moonlighting sessions !
The reverse side is by The Broadway Syncopators, also under the same pseudonym, but it is an American recording from September, 1923.
