Ms. Carolina Segrera sings la habanera \"Tu\" and Un Viejo Amor. Tu was composed by E Sanchez de Fuente and is a popular Spanish song also featured in La Fiesta, one of the first Vitaphones ever released in August 1926. Un Viejo Amor was composed by A Fernando Bustamente and A Esparza Oteo. Don Alberto and His Argentines consisted of Don Alberto, piano; Genaro Veiga, guitar; Celestino Bianchi, accordian; and Epaim Suarez, violin.
Ms. Segrera was not an actress but was an opera singer who I believe appeared mainly in operas in Italy (La Scala) and New York. Beside this Vitaphone, she also appeared in the US made \"My Two Loves\", a Spanish language feature of Cobian Productions. She also appeared with Rosita Fornes, the Cuban diva in the Cuban made film Una Adventura Peligrosa. Ms. Segrera was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1905 and having a beautiful soprano voice, was offered a scholarship in Milan debuting in Monte Carlo in 1934 and the following year at La Scala. With fascism and the oncoming WWII becoming more and more disruptive in Italy, she returned to the US and Cuba in 1937 making her debut in Tosca at the Cincinnati Opera and continued her concerts in the US and Cuba favoring the art and music of Havana. Beginning in 1961 she taught singing in New York until she retired and passed away in 1998.
