Alice Blue Gown (McCarthy-Tierney) by Frankie Masters & his Orchestra, vocal by Marion Francis
First popularized by Edith Day in the 1919 smash Broadway musical hit “Irene,” “(My Sweet Little) Alice Blue Gown” enjoyed some renewed success in 1940 when RKO released their movie adaptation of “Irene” which starred Anna Neagle and Ray Milland. The “Alice blue” of the song is a reference to the pale blue color favored by Alice Roosevelt Longworth (Teddy Roosevelt’s daughter).
