Hailing from Oakland, California, IDENTITY THEFT is the solo electronic synth-wave project of Michael Buchanan (of SEACRYPT, ABANDONED FOOTWEAR and NOMMO OGO fame and founding member of the KATABATIK collective). Reconnaissance is a masterpiece of instrumental hardware synthesizer music, combining the love of ambience of VANGELIS and TANGERINE DREAM, the highly emotional melodies of JAN HAMMER and the spacey grandeur of JEAN-MICHEL JARRE. The tracks which form the core of this album have been composed and recorded during three days of complete isolation at an old fire lookout in the middle of Plumas National Forest. Cold and deeply poignant in the same breath, they manage to capture both the magic of the Californian open landscapes and the immensity of human solitude in the face of Nature’s ineffability. Featuring additional synths by Mara Barenbaum (GROUP RHODA) and a remix by ARKTAION (aka EXILE from SACRIFICIAL TOTEM), this is synths as we love them best.
