All music performed, recorded, and composed by Kara-Lis Coverdale between Mar 2013-Jan 2015 in Montreal. "X 4EWI" and "Splash 144" are sections II and III from "Conversion Music" for VST and Wind Controller premiered at LMCML in June, 2014.
Aftertouches blossoms an iteration of Kara-Lis Coverdale's post-sacred and post-instrumental technique, exploring and celebrating the multiple voices of the machine sourced from VSTs, sound banks, and personal archives.
Despite the intensely scrupulous and counter intuitive production method, the results are anything but challenging, instead offering holographic projections of iridescent chromatic harmonies and febrile, dreamlike dimensions. Through this filigree rendering and superimposition of myriad synthetic sounds, Coverdale brings us about as close as possible to listening to her subvocalised imagination.
In contrast to her recent Grafts opus which we’ve spent so much time with recently, these nine pieces feel more overgrown and explicitly ecstatic, fulminating a play of light and tone through a reactive flux of hyaline organs, shatterproof vocals and brass motifs that are swept in a constant, airborne motion that will leave you dizzy and gawping at the majesty of it all.
