Deciding the first cover of the new decade was challenging. I knew that if I wanted it to have any meaning, it'd have to be something closer to my roots of this channel and I thought especially with the past year being so good for Zelda, I'd start off with one of the first songs to ever make me fall in love with video game music. It also helps that I was watching ZFG's amazing OoT run on GDQ last week while deciding what I wanted to do this week. Kokiri Forest is a cover I've planned to do for the past 4-5 years and I never could figure out how I wanted to approach it. I sat down with it after coming home from MAGfest and really enjoyed playing around with C - Bb chord riffs. It was tough to make them interesting, but I realized a lot of what makes them work with the melody is their simplicity so I tried to preserve as much as I could while also making it heavy.

I also really enjoyed re-harmonizing stuff later on. It's funny how it's taken me ten years to really figure out what my sound is and how I can harness it and be calculated with some of my decision making with arrangement and tone. I'm kind of a slow learner, I guess. This song means a lot to me and I'm happy to finally bring it to you! Please enjoy and I hope ten years from now, I'll be ten times as good as I am now since I'm like a THOUSAND times better than I was in 2010 at this!
