Taken from The Chuck Barris Syndicate 45rpm Single b-side of 'Baja California' 1968 on Dot Records. Written by Bob Alcivar, Larry Ramos & Tony Ortega. Chuck Barris is best known for being the creator/host/producer of tv gameshows such as 'The Dating Game' & 'The Gong Show' that were immensely popular (kind of a precursor to American Idol & XFactor) that ran in the late 60's & 70's, as well as for writing a book about his time with the C.I.A. (they say he never did work for them, and Barris himself later claimed he didn't...possibly the wiser of choices) called 'Confessions of a Dangerous Mind' that was later to be turned into a movie starring George Clooney (of all people!?!). Barris wrote most all the songs for his game shows, however, previous to these adventures Barris had also written the track 'Palisades Park', a massive hit on the Billboard Hot 100 for Freddy 'boom boom' Cannon and covered by many other notable artists like Jimi Lalumia & The Psychotic Frogs, Rude Kids, Fumble & Cyclone!?! This particular track, 'Donnie', crept out to little fanfare in 68 and was the only single by this outfit (despite other efforts to come from Barris himself) and includes a writing credit for the arranger of this song Bob Alcivar, as well as Tony Ortega who wrote and arranged for The Association and Larry Ramos (who was actually in The Association). There's no doubt Barris was a busy man with many friends! In later life he moved to South of France and enjoyed his well earned retirement before sadly passing away at the ripe old age of 87. Here we have his classic sunshine pop flavoured b-side for posterity. This track also appears on the Pet Records cd compilation 'Soft Sounds For Gentle People 4' 2006(?). I do not own, or claim to own any copywrite regarding this recording.
