Lucifer Was were formed in Oslo in 1969/70 by drummer Kai Frilseth.

The band played regularly in the Oslo area until 1976.

From 1976 until 1996 the activity was more sporadic.

The band reunited with the original line-up in 1996 and released \"Underground And Beyond\" in 1997, which consists solely of material from the period 1970-1972.

1997-1999: Writing and arranging \"In Anadi's Bower\".

2000: Finishing recording and releasing \"In Anadi's Bower\".

Thore Engen is interested in mysticism and myths, which clearly shows in

the lyrics he writes... \"On this album the lyrical themes of the the creation, lifecontents and end of man, time, minds and the conflict between the good and bad started. The darkness and the end-times-themes that I would later call \"the goat and lamb\" concept, based on the Apocalypse. The participants were the same as on Underground And Beyond in addition to Knut Johannessen and Jon-Willy Rydning on mellotrons. And there was also one major difference: Jon Ruder had joined as lead singer.\"

This Norwegian band keeps the best of the 70's prog rock traditions alive.

... Thore Engen, about comparing L.W. to Jethro Tull, Uriah Heep and Black Sabbath:

\"...Jethro Tull may be the one I feel most distanced from when I read that we sound like them. It is obviously because of the flutes....I feel that our records are quite different compared to each other and I never write on inspiration from hearing someone else's music, apart from what's in my mind from the past and how my life is at the present time of working. To me Lucifer Was is a heavy retro progressive unit, sometimes metallic and symphonic, with some own trademarks, especially the flutes, and the, often doomy, heavy guitarriffs combined with melodic vocals.\"
