Walk On The Wild Side (Bernstein) by Jimmy Smith, arranged & conducted by Oliver Nelson
Another dramatic movie theme composed by the great Elmer Bernstein, recorded by jazz organist Jimmy Smith with big band accompaniment for his “Bashin’” LP and spread over two sides of the 45 single release.
Though Joel Whitburn’s Record Research books show only “Part 1” (which doesn’t feature Smith) as the charted side, the published Hot 100 Billboard charts of the time listed it simply as “Walk On The Wild Side”…thus this posting of the entire near-six-minute track. Note that Side One of the 45 faded out at the 2:35 mark, but Side Two began with a repeat of the 2:18-to-2:35 segment. This post is the continuous unedited LP version without the repeated portion of the single release.
Billboard Chart Peaks: 21 (Hot 100), 4 (R&B)
